Unbanished Shadows of Darkness

"I had to fall, to lose it all..."

People watching. Kaoru had spent many of his years people watching, even when he'd been in heaven, he'd watched. It was something of a hobby, one he was so attuned to, he could pick out the different species of being. Humans bore an aura the color of their greatest sin. Other Angels and Fallen were easy to identify by their bright or dark auras. Werewolves were easiest just after them, because their aura seemed to look like moonglow. Vampires were tricky, because their auras seemed to shift and change the longer they were around.
But Demons... those were harder to peg. Many of them could mask or change their aura, whether they knew they could or not. Kaoru had been trying for the last thirty years to figure out the Demon races, but he had to admit, he was failing. Somewhat. Not that it bothered him, of course. It gave him something to do.
He couldn't be sure why he'd come to this city. He was never sure why he went anywhere, really. He wandered too much, he knew that. But since Shrin, he hadn't felt the urge to stop moving. Maybe one day, but that was a long time from now. Shifting on the bench, Kaoru crossed one leg over the other, leather pants creaking softly, as his eyes roved the few people that moved around him.
